A Chronic Housing Shortage

According to a report by The Housing Industry Association (HIA) dated March 2010, the then housing shortage in Australia stood at 109,000 dwellings and could increase to 466,000 over the next decade.
In August 2009 the Commonwealth Treasury estimated current annual housing demand at over 200,000 homes with completions of less than 160,000 homes per annum, a shortfall of 40,000 per annum.
